International Greenwich Olympiad is a Project Olympiad organised by North London Grammar School in London. The vision is to stimulate students’ passion and enthusiasm for science and technology by using their curiosity, creativity, use their practical skills and come up with new innovative ideas that they can turn into projects and present them in the form of research papers.
The next round of this international presentation took place on June 8–15, in which Sarah Krupšová also participated with the project “Effect of hydrothermal and thermal activation of cellulose-amine porous materials on CO2 capture”. She realized the experimental parts of its work at the Institute of Chemitry. The supervisor was doc. RNDr. Miroslav Almáši, PhD.
Sarah, as a student of the 2nd year of the Evangelical Gymnasium of Ján Amos Comenský in Košice, participated in the regional round of AMAVET 2023, from which she advanced to the national round and then to the International Greenwich Olympiad 2024. She won first place in the Engineering category.
Her work under the guidance of doc. RNDr. Miroslav Almáši, PhD. focused on the preparation of porous carbonaceous materials doped with different amounts of amine groups for effective capture of carbon dioxide as the main greenhouse gas.
One of the missions of the Institute of Chemistry staff is to help students learn more about current trends in chemistry, research scientific methods, techniques, including materials development, and gain new experience in various competitions not only at the university but also through cooperation with secondary schools.
Congratulations!
