Professor Eva Čellárová – our new “Professor Emeritus”

On March 8, 2024, based on the proposal of the Dean of the Faculty of Science at UPJŠ in Košice, Associate Professor RNDr. Roman Soták, PhD., and with the approval of the Scientific Council of UPJŠ in Košice, the Rector of UPJŠ in Košice, Professor MUDr. Daniel Pella, PhD., solemnly conferred the honorary title of “Professor Emeritus” to Professor RNDr. Eva Čellárová, DrSc. This conferral acknowledges Professor Čellárová’s exceptional contributions to science, education, and management at the Faculty of Science, UPJŠ in Košice.

Professor Eva Čellárová is a renowned expert in the field of plant biotechnology and genetics, with a special focus on natural sources of plant-derived secondary metabolites with anticancer effects, studied at the genomic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic levels. Her work is characterized by an interdisciplinary approach, incorporating advanced methods of biotechnology and genetics.

For over 40 years at the Faculty of Science, UPJŠ, Professor Čellárová has significantly contributed to the development of education in genetics and molecular biology. At the turn of the millennium, she played a crucial role in shaping several generations of university students, teaching with enthusiasm and expert knowledge. Her pedagogical efforts are backed by an internationally recognized scientific school focused on innovative research and practice.

Professor Čellárová is part of a transcontinental consortium for biomedical research on secondary metabolites produced by certain species of the Hypericum genus, known as Hypexplor. This team is well-established in the international biotechnological and cryobiological community, representing the university at the highest level. Professor Čellárová has published over 80 scientific papers, cited more than 1200 times, highlighting her significant influence on the scientific community.

As a former Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Science at UPJŠ, she was instrumental in implementing the credit system and supporting the academic information system, thereby contributing to the modernization of the educational process. In her managerial roles, she participated in involving the university in activities organized by the European University Association and preparing the university for international evaluation. She also played a significant role in modernizing doctoral studies and introducing quality culture elements.

We warmly congratulate Professor Eva Čellárová and wish her continued success in her scientific, pedagogical, and personal endeavors, which will surely contribute to the further development of the university.
