Presentation event of the international project MHz – Tomoscopy

P.J. Šafárik University in Košice, as a partner of the international project HE EIC MHz Tomoscopy, co-organized Annual meeting of the project, including the presentation event of the project, which took place on 4 September 2024 in Bratislava. The presentation ceremony was attended by representatives of the Heads of the embassies of Italy and Japan in Slovakia, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic, the Director of the Vyšegrad Fund as well as our partners from CEITEC Brno, and the POO TIK Space project.  UPJŠ takes part in the EIC Pathfinder MHz Tomoscopy project as a lead partner of WP2 and WP4 (responsible person assoc. Prof. Jozef Uličný from the Institute of Physics, Faculty of Science, P.J. Šafarik University in Košice ) as well as in WP5 of the project.

The project is funded by Horizon Europe – the European Union Framework Programme for Research and Innovation under European Innovation Council (EIC). Its aim is to realize the first ever multi-projection X-ray tomoscopic device with a sampling rate capable of observing fast phenomena in 3D, which will be available at the European XFEL in Hamburg.

The project, led by Dr Patrik Vagovič of CFEL/DESY in Hamburg, involves the collaboration of research institutions based in several countries, including Italy (partner institutions are the University of Ferrara and the National Institute of Nuclear Physics – INFN) and Slovakia (partner institution is Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice), as well as Germany, the United Kingdom and Japan.

During the event, the numerous opportunities arising from the introduction of the new facility were presented, both in the scientific field (in particular for advanced studies in materials science and biology) and in industries with the highest technological content (such as aerospace, energy storage and industrial processes for 2D materials, e.g. graphene), where it will enable the development of extremely innovative and cutting-edge applications.
