RNDr. Radka Gorejová, PhD., from the Department of Physical Chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University (UPJŠ) in Košice, has received a prestigious recognition during the “Science and Technology Award 2024” gala ceremony. The event took place on November 15 at the Winter Riding Hall of Bratislava Castle, marking the highlight of Slovakia’s Science and Technology Week.

Dr. Gorejová was honored in the category “Young Scientist of the Year (Under 35)” for her outstanding contribution to the development of biomaterials with applications in orthopedics and medicine. Her research focuses on degradable metallic biomaterials, which have the potential to enhance patient care by reducing the need for secondary surgical interventions. This achievement not only highlights her individual success but also underscores the potential of young researchers at UPJŠ.

“I am deeply grateful for this recognition, which motivates me to continue my research. I believe our work on biomaterials will provide practical solutions for the medical field and contribute to broader societal benefits,” said Dr. Gorejová. More about her research and future goals can be found in her interview.

The Faculty of Science at UPJŠ is committed to fostering young talent, creating an environment where promising researchers like Dr. Gorejová can build their careers and push the frontiers of knowledge. “Awards like the one received by Radka Gorejová today are proof that investing in young scientists pays off and drives progress,” said the Dean of the Faculty. “Our goal is to establish an attractive setting where young researchers can pursue innovative ideas, develop their careers, and contribute to addressing pressing global challenges.”

The gala event was attended by Slovakia’s Minister of Education, Tomáš Drucker, who emphasized the importance of science and research for modern society and acknowledged the contributions of young researchers. The full recording of the award ceremony will be broadcast on STV2 on November 23, 2024, at 20:10 CET.
