Temporary residence

3minút, 23sekúnd

(hereinafter referred to only as “TR”)

TR is ESSENTIALL, it is done by the Office of Foreign Police of the SR. Without it, the day after your VISA expires, you will have to leave the country, if not, you will be made to leave by the police, given a fine and MAY be subject to becoming a PERSONA NON GRATA in the Schengen Area.

You are advised to apply for TR ASAP, after your arrival, so have all your documents ready with you.  PLEASE BE ADVISED, while your TR application is under consideration by the police (2 months), you are not allowed to travel outside of Slovakia, except to your country of origin (but to return, during this time, you will need a valid multiple entry VISA)! Once your temporary residence has been granted you will have to undergo a medical check-up in the field of infectious diseases, so as to determine that you do not suffer from any.

Check the 2nd Link at the bottom, where you will find the address of all certified medical institutions. Have a colleague from Slovakia call every one, ask for possible appointments (be aware, at the beginning of the school year and the end of it, it may be difficult to get one), and for prices (they differ, Kosice is the highest in the Eastern region) LINK

BASIC PRINCIPLES:

1. Every document, which you have to submit MUST be in Slovak language (if the original is not, it MUST BE TRANSLATED)

2. NO document may be older than 90 days!!! (older means DATE of ISSUE on document + 90 days) This does not apply to DIPLOMA and MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE.

3. Every DOCUMENT you submit, the police will NOT GIVE BACK. So unless you wish to lose your DIPLOMA, make a NOTARY CERTIFIED COPY (in the SR it costs ~2 Euros x Page), same goes for MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE, and other documents, which you have only one of, and might need it in the future. Official Translations are STITCHED together with the document provided in the foreign language (may it be original or notary copy), so keep that in mind (unless you want to lose it there)

4. EVERY DOCUMENT which you provide FROM A FOREIGN country MUST be APPOSTILISED. There are two different types of higher authorisation Appostilisation (based on an international convention) or Superlegalisation (higher authorisation). It is your responsibility, wehter your home country, and every country you visited, has signed the Convention on Superlegalisation. If not, then you will need the other one. Read about it on the net, they are different things. Ask your embassy, which one you need, we don’t know every countries, we ask as well, every time.

THIS IS the FORM. YOU will have to FILL out EVERY COLUMN (which is relevant to YOU). YOU HAVE to be TRUTHFULL, THE POLICE CHECK the information. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE FORM, find out all the information ahead of time (e.g. date and place of your mother). If you are UNSURE about SOMETHING, DON’T FILL it out, DO it at the POLICE, ASK the Policeman/woman to help you!
