In cooperation with Albertina icome Bratislava, we have prepared a trial access to the Oxford English Dictionary Online until 12th May 2024.
The OED captures the development of the English language over the last millennium. It is an unsurpassed guide to the meaning, etymology and pronunciation – using the international phonetic alphabet – of more than 600,000 words. It provides examples of word usage in over 3 million phrases from across the full range of English usage, both geographically and thematically. There are 8 subject indexes. A Historical Thesaurus is also included. The electronic form provides access to the contents of the 20-volume second edition (1989) and the three-volume series of supplements from 1993 and 1997.
The online dictionary is available on the University Library website under Catalogues and Resources – ELECTRONIC INFORMATION RESOURCES – Trial access to databases or directly at this link .
ACCESS is secured on the basis of IP address from the Internet network of the University of Applied Sciences in Košice or for use from home through setting up remote access.
