From 5-8 September 2021, the Vice-Rector for Informatization and Director of Quality at UPJŠ in Košice, prof. RNDr. Gabriel Semanišin, PhD. and the head of Business & Marketing, Roman Oros from Technology and Innovation Park (TIP-UPJŠ) were part of economic mission under the auspices of the Košice Regional Chamber of SOPK in the capital of Estonia – Tallinn. The delegation was also attended by government representatives – Deputy Prime Minister – Veronika Remišová, MIRRI experts – Tomáš Jucha and State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MZVEZ SR), Miloš Koterec, Martin Oravec from the Board of Advisors from the Government Office of the Slovak Republic and the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic in Helsinki (covering Finland and Estonia), Slavomíra Mašurová.

Together with other members and partners of the business delegation for the Košice region, they visited the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where they discussed cooperation and new opportunities in the business environment in Slovakia and Estonia. Mgr. Roman Oros introduced the Cassovia New Industry Cluster (CNIC) project to the members of the delegation, which met with Deputy Prime Minister Remišová with a favorable response.

The program included a meeting of the Deputy Mayor of Tallinn and then a visit to Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), where they talked about research, innovation, business, while also visiting the Mektory Innovation and Business Center. which serves as a huge incubator for students, start-ups and companies.

In the end, the members of the business delegation visited e-Estonia. The success of a company depends on a clever infrastructure that has made it possible to build a secure ecosystem of electronic services in which 99% of government services are online, such as the use of electronic ID cards, the establishment of a start-up within three hours, cyber protection, e-health and many other services. An important part of this ecosystem is flexibility and the ability to integrate its various parts while improving electronic services and enabling the growth of government systems. Estonia has been described by Wired as “the most advanced digital company in the world”. Thanks to electronic solutions, communication with the state is fast and convenient for everyone, making the country more efficient.

We look forward to strengthening foreign relations between universities, science parks, as well as the private sector in Slovakia and Estonia, and to transforming the knowledge and inspiration gained into new opportunities to improve the academic and business environment through cross-sectoral cooperation and the innovation ecosystem in the Košice region.
