On April 21, 2021 the founding members of the CNIC at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice welcomed a visit from the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic – Minister Branislav Gröhling and State Secretary Ľudovít Paulis, during which they discussed the financing and sustainability of the project Cassovia New Industry Cluster (CNIC).
Rector of UPJŠ, prof. RNDr. Pavol Sovák, CSc., welcomed not only the delegation of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic but also other representatives of the newly emerging cluster – prof. RNDr. Pavol Miškovský, Dr.Sc., Director of the Technology and Innovation Park UPJŠ (TIP-UPJŠ) and CNIC Project leader, doc. JUDr. Renáta Bačárová, PhD., LL.M, Chairman of the AS UPJŠ and Head of the Center for Technology Transfer at TIP-UPJŠ, Rector of the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice, Dr. h. c. Prof. MVDr. Jana Mojžišová, PhD., together with the Vice-rector Prof. MVDr. Juraj Pistl, PhD., Rector of the Technical University in Košice, Dr. h. c. Prof. Ing. Stanislav Kmeť, DrSc., and the Vice-rector Prof. Ing. Radovan Hudák, Ph.D. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Košice Self-governing region – Ing. Julianna Orbán Maté, PhD., Director of EGTC Via Carpatia, and Mgr. Tomáš Malatinec, PhD., Head of the Department of Regional Development and Planning and representative of the City of Košice – Mgr. Marcel Gibóda, Deputy Mayor.
The CNIC partners informed the State Secretary Ľudovít Paulis about the development of the CNIC project and its contribution to the development of the East Slovakian region, support for the GDP growth of the region, employment growth, maintenance resp. return of talented people from abroad and thus to the overall growth of living standards of the inhabitants of the Košice Self-governing region. The subject of the negotiations was a discussion on the CNIC project documentation, project sustainability, and the business model, the vision of which was presented by Professor Pavol Miškovský.
“Cassovia New Industry Cluster (CNIC) will ensure a strong connection between the academic and business environment, the main goal of which is to create a new high-tech industry in eastern Slovakia through the development of universities and SAS, which will ensure significant growth of economic and social level in eastern Slovakia. over the next few years they reached the average level of the EU (currently 50%) “, said Professor Pavol Miškovský.
The CNIC project was highly positively evaluated by representatives from the Joint Research Center in Brussels and a group of experts from the European Commission. CNIC, as a center of scientific and technological excellence, focuses primarily on materials and biomedical technologies, green and digital technologies, and quantum technologies. However, it also emphasizes social areas, including the care of an aging population (the so-called “silver economy”) and a healthy lifestyle for the working-age population.
