Bot. 28 (1): 001-005. \u2013 ISSN 1210-0420.<\/p>\n Abstract<\/em>: In this paper, new sites of rare dandelions Taraxacum cognatum Kirschner & \u0160t\u011bp\u00e1nek (sect. Palustria) from Str\u00e1\u017eovsk\u00e9 vrchy Mts. are presented. The new populations represent the northern limit and important altitudinal pattern of the distribution of the species in Slovakia. Despite the fact the species has not been classified in the New Slovak red list, we consider to evaluate T. cognatum as vulnerable species of the Slovak flora. Patil V.S. & Malpathak N.P. (2018):<\/strong> Development of xylem plates and stem anatomy of Tinospora cordifolia (Willd.) Miers. (Menispermaceae) \u2013 Thaiszia \u2013 J. Bot. 28 (1): 007-017. \u2013 ISSN 1210-0420.<\/p>\n Abstract<\/em>: Tinospora cordifolia (Willd.) Miers belonging to the family Menispermaceae is a large, tropical climbing shrub commonly found throughout India. In Menispermaceae, secondary growth is achieved by formation of multiple cambia or a single cambium. In fully grown plants the stem becomes thick, moderately woody, and parenchymatous with very large and wide rays. In Tinospora secondary growth is achieved by single cambium with formation of xylem in plates. Tinospora is commonly known for its atypical wood anatomical structure i.e. lignified xylem plates embedded in parenchymatous ray cells. This type of cambial variant is the result of the normal activity of cambium which produces xylem towards the center and phloem towards periphery but is an abnormality in conformation. Unequal activity of the cambium at certain segments results in macro-morphological abnormalities in the stem structure. The conformational changes lead to the development of xylem in plates which were separated by wide rays. Secondary xylem showed vessel dimorphism in both large and narrow vessels, and distinctly wide rays. Formation of ray cambia and its redifferentiation into vessel elements was observed in Tinospora which were not reported earlier in this genus. Other anatomical characters such as presence of wide vessels, abundance of parenchyma, and vessel dimorphism favored the scandent habit of the plant, which is discussed in this investigation. (2018):<\/strong> Ecological and coenotic characteristics of rare endemic species Spiraea polonica B\u0142ocki and S. pikoviensis Besser (Rosaceae), Ukraine \u2013 Thaiszia \u2013 J. Bot. 28 (1): 019-034. \u2013 ISSN 1210-0420.<\/p>\n Abstract<\/em>: The descriptions of habitats of two rare endemic species \u2013 Spiraea polonica B\u0142ocki and S. pikoviensis Besser, the species status of which requires a clarification, are given. Both studied species are critical species from S. crenata L. aggr., the status of which is doubtful. The preliminary morphological and biochemical results give us all reasons to be sure of their species status. To confirm this assumption we analysed ecological and coenotical paculiarities of these species in their locus classicus. The results of areas descriptions involving S. polonica and S. pikoviensis were stored into TURBOVEG database and analysed using TWISPAN and Statistica 7.0 software, that showed the distribution of syntaxa according to 12 major ecofactors in point scale. To determine the limit of ecofactors points boundaries, the methods of indirect ordination was used and the dendrogramme was made. It reflected the degree of similarity of coenosis ecofactors on the basis of the assessment values of coenosis, together with S. polonica and S. pikoviensis;. The estimation of quantitative indicators of ecofactors as well as ecological and coenotic characteristics shows that S. pikoviensis and S. polonica exist in the form of local populations, the area of which constantly decreases. They grow in ecotone conditions of forest fringes and are characterized by narrow ecological and coenotic amplitude. These characteristics can be considered as a threat to the existence of species caused by a low number of repatriation places, limitness of seeds move agents (because of forest surrounding), so exsist high probability of the populations loss . According to developed estimation criteria for risk of populations losses, this risk is extremely high and is over 83%. Habitats with such indicator belong to I st class, a very rare one. According to IUCN classification, these types should be referred to the category CR (threatened) that require a complex of special protection measures. Millaku F., Elezaj I. & Berisha N. (2018): <\/strong>Sympatric area and ecology of some Tulipa species in the West Balkan Peninsula \u2013 Thaiszia \u2013 J. Bot. 28 (1): 035-047. \u2013 ISSN 1210-0420.<\/p>\n Abstract<\/em>: Seven taxa of Tulipa grow in the Republic of Kosovo, out of which, three are stenoendemic species (T. luanica, T. kosovarica and T. serbica), one is local endemic species (T. scardica), whereas species T. gesneriana and species T. sylvestris which is represented with two subspecies (T. sylvestris subsp. australis and T. sylvestris subsp. sylvestris), have wider distribution. The paper deals with the 5 taxa; two are endemic species (T. luanica, T. kosovarica) and 3 taxa (T. gesneriana, T. sylvestris subsp. australis and T. sylvestris subsp. sylvestris) that are distributed in a sympatric area in serpentine substrate in the Deva locality, in the south of Kosovo, close to the border with Albania. Species of T. kosovarica forms three small populations in the serpentine substrate in the central part of Kosovo, while species of T. luanica have been found in the limestone substrate in the Pashtriku Mt (S. Kosovo). In the serpentines of Deva, populations of the two endemic species of tulips, as well as T. gesneriana and two subspecies of T. sylvestris, have been recorded. The presence of two endemic species as well as T. gesneriana and T. sylvestris subspecies in an area of only 18 km2, makes this place particular importance center of distribution for tulips in the Western Balkans. Bot. 28 (1): 059- 077. \u2013 ISSN 1210-0420.<\/p>\n Abstract<\/em>: In recent years environmental burdens such as spoil heaps left after mining industry have started to lose their negative reputation as scars in the modern landscape as they often hold a significant ecological value and can host many vanishing species of various organisms. In this paper we present a total of 13 bryophyte species recorded at two spoil heaps near the city of Bansk\u00e1 Bystrica in Central Slovakia with notes on their ecology, distribution and conservation status. The evaluated species include: Bryum algovicum, Campylidium calcareum, Campylopus introflexus, Coscinodon cribrosus, Drepanocladus polygamus, Helodium blandowii, Leucobryum juniperoideum, Orthotrichum stramineum, Plagiomnium ellipticum, Pohlia annotina, P. bulbifera, P. camptotrachela and Trichostomum crispulum. Our study provides knowledge that some rare and valuable bryophyte species can occur in post-mining areas such as spoil heaps. Special attention should be paid to these sites in terms of biodiversity protection. Bot. 28 (2): 081-091. \u2013 ISSN 1210-0420.<\/p>\n Abstract<\/em>: The article presents a new scheme for assessing the invasion risk from archaeophyte and neophyte woody plants in Armenia, which has been adapted from two widely used and well known works – WEBER & GUT (2004) and MAGEE et al. (2010). Using these schemes invasion risk assessments were carried out of 153 woody plant species (mostly recommended for landscape architecture and gardening in Armenia) and the level of their invasive potential was specified for each species. The obtained results provide a good basis for further use of assessed species for different purposes, as well as for focusing scientific work on monitoring of population dynamics, development of quarantine control, elaboration of different guidelines for quarantine service, etc. Special attention should be given to their distribution under the impact of climate change. We propose to use our developed methodology of assessmentfor new species introduction, testing of growing in different conditions of Armenia or for selection of new species or forms for landscape architecture and gardening. Bot. 28 (2): 093-102. \u2013 ISSN 1210-0420.<\/p>\n Abstract<\/em>: A document held at the State Archives in Naples entitled \u201cNotamento dei vasi e piante esistenti nei vari giardini n\u00e9 due boschi Superiore ed Inferiore in Portici\u201d dated June 3, 1865, contains a census of the botanical assets of the Royal Palace of Portici gardens and park. The list includes 118 identifiable species, 59 of which are still present in the Botanical Garden of Portici. This valuable document lists the plants present in the collections at that time, allowing us to trace the origin of some species currently grown in the Botanical Garden of Portici. (Primulaceae) is recorded as a new species for the Baltic States flora on the basis of herbarium material first collected by P. Evarts-Bunders, in Daugavpils (Latvia). In Latvia the species has been identified in their natural habitat – xeric sand calcareous grasslands, where other grassland flora elements are encountered, although the origin of the species in this locality is not clear. A locality identified far northward of the main natural areal has, most probably, an ancient anthropogenic origin. Bot. 28 (2): 111-123. \u2013 ISSN 1210-0420.<\/p>\n Abstract<\/em>: We studied historical and recent distribution of halophytic species Tripolium pannonicum subsp. pannonicum in Slovakia. In total, 60 localities were recorded, 49 sites are documented by herbarium vouchers and 11 sites were excerpted only from the literature and unpublished data. Historical data are shortly discussed and some traduced errors are explained. Only 27 localities were confirmed recently (46%), therefore the status EN (endangered) in the actual Slovak Red list was confirmed. Map of the historical and recent distribution of the subspecies is given. Periodically flooded and dried shallow inundations in strongly saline soils have been identified as typical habitat of T. pannonicum subsp. pannonicum, but we recorded it also on various secondary habitats (field depressions, tracks in rural roads). The role of different type of management for successful survival is mentioned. Dyka O.<\/strong> (2018): Flower morphology and vascular anatomy in some representatives of Urgineoideae (Hyacinthaceae). \u2013 Thaiszia \u2013 J. Bot. 28 (2): 125-143. \u2013 ISSN 1210-0420.<\/p>\n Abstract<\/em>: The flower morphology and vascular anatomy in Bowiea volubilis, Geschollia anomala and Fusifilum physodes have been studied. It was shown that the perigonium and androecium in the studied species are very similar. Each of tepals, and each stamen is supplied by a single vascular bundle. Some significant differences are recognized in the inner structure of the ovary, vertical zonality of septal nectary, as well as gynoecium venation in the studied species. Accordingly to W. Leinfellner concept of the gynoecium vertical zonality, it was established that the gynoecium of B. volubilis consists of hemisynascidiate, hemisymplicate and asymplicate zones, and the gynoecium of G. anomala and F. physodes consists of synascidiate, symplicate, hemisymplicate and asymplicate zones. The septal nectary of all studied species have a nectary cavity and nectary split which opens to the exterior. In the septal nectary we detected three vertical zones: the zone of the distinct nectary at the symplicate zone in F. physodes; the zone of the common nectary at the hemisynascidiate, and hemisymplicate zones in B. volubilis, and at the hemisymplicate zone in G. anomala and F. physodes; the zone of the external nectary (nectary splits) in all studied species at the asymplicate zone in the ovary roof. The gynoecium of B. volubilis can be determined as hemisyncarpous with common septal nectary, and those of G. anomala and F. physodes \u2013 as eusyncarpous with common septal nectary. The gynoecium vasculature of F. physodes is the most complicated, each carpel showing one dorsal, two ventral and two septal bundles. The recorded plants belong to the families Asteraceae (Ligularia glauca, Sonchus palustris, Xanthium spinosum), Lycopodiaceae (Lycopodium clavatum), Orchidaceae (Cephalanthera rubra, Epipactis microphylla, Ophrys holubiana), Poaceae (Tragus racemosus), Ranunculaceae (Adonis vernalis, Pulsatilla grandis) and Rosaceae (Duchesnea indica). Tragus racemosus is reported for the first time from V\u00fdchodoslovensk\u00e1 n\u00ed\u017eina lowland as well as the first record of Sonchus palustris for the flora of the Slansk\u00e9 vrchy Mts.
