MA J. S. (1994): A floristic analysis of the Chinese Fabaceae with emphasis on the Sino-Himalayan region. – Thaiszia – J. Bot., Košice, 4:1-14.
ABSTRACT: In the Fabaceae (s.str.) 106 genera and 1294 species are known to be native in China, occurring particularly in SW and NW China. The genera are mainly in the Desmodieae (18 Chinese genera/27 worldwide genera), Galegeae (13/20), Hedysareae (4/7), Trifolieae (6/7), Phaseoleae (27/84) and Thermopsideae (3/6) but also occur in 13 other tribes, the latter comprising 35% of the Chinese Fabaceae genera. The floristic elements at the generic level were found to comprise a tropical element (61 genera, 57.5%) and a temperate element (45 genera, 42.5%). At the species level, the family is largely composed of North Temperate species in China (500, 38.6%) followed by Pantropical species (310, 23.9%), with members of other elements comprising no more than 10% of the total in each element. The richest province in China for the family is Yunnan (67 genera, 423 spp.), followed by Xinjiang (32 genera, 345 spp.), Sichuan (47 genera, 284 spp.), Xizang (41 genera, 252 spp.), Guangdong (55 genera, 225 spp.), Guangxi (47 genera, 223 spp.) and Guizhou (55 genera, 218 spp.). These most abundant regions are in SW China, i.e. the Sino – Himalayan Region, and NW China, i.e. the Irano – Turanian Region. The genera endemic to the Sino – Himalayan region of China are Salweenia (1, Xizang), Craspedolobium (1, SW China), Cochlianthus (2, Himalayas), Butea (4, Indo – China), Gueldenstaedtia (11, Sino – Himalayas), Campylotropis (45, Himalayas), and Tibetia (6, SW China). There are many species endemic to this region, especially in the genera Astragalus (300 spp., mainly W China) and Oxytropis (75 spp., mainly W China).

FRASER-JENKINS C. R. (1994): Dryopteris (Pteridophyta) of Hawai’i – a monographic study. – Thaiszia – J. Bot., Košice, 4: 15-47.
ABSTRACT: Following a previous classification of Dryopteris by FRASER-JENKINS (1986), eight of the nine Hawai’ian species are placed in sections within the genus, one still remaining unplaced. The special degree of variation within at least two of the species in the Hawai’ian archipelago is discussed and the taxonomy of the species is rationalised accordingly, mostly bearing out the previous treatment of HERAT (1979). New taxa are: Dryopteris palikuensis HERAT ex FRAS.-JENK., D. fusco-atra var. lamoureuxii FRAS.-JENK. and D. unidentata var. ukelelensis HERAT ex FRAS.-JENK.; new combinations are: Dryopteris comorensis (TARD.-BLOT) FRAS.-JENK., D. wallichiana subsp. madrasensis (FRAS.-JENK.) FRAS.-JENK., D. wallichiana subsp. coriacea (FRAS.-JENK.) FRAS.-JENK., D. glabra var. pusilla (HILLEBR.) FRAS.-JENK., D. glabra var. soripes (HILLEBR.) HERAT ex FRAS.-JENK., D. glabra var. nuda (Underw.) FRAS.-JENK., D. unidentata var. paleacea (HILLEBR.) HERAT ex FRAS.-JENK. and D. unidentata var. acutidens (HILLEBR.) FRAS.-JENK. Some nomenclatural revision has been necessary as a result of retypification of names which had been misapplied by recent authors, including D. sandwicensis (HOOK. et ARN.) C. CHR.

BUDNIKOV G. et KRICSFALUSY V. (1994): Bioecological study of Galanthus nivalis L. in the East Carpathians. – Thaiszia – J. Bot., Košice, 4: 49-75.
ABSTRACT: Results of a combined ecological and biological study of Galanthus nivalis L. in the East Carpathians are presented. Information on the distribution, ecological-phytocenotic attachement and demography of the species, morphogenesis and onthogenesis are given. Intraspecific morphological, anatomical and karyotypic variation, the most important problems of vegetative and seed reproduction of the species, as well as embryological aspects of the reproductive process are elucidated. Problems of protection and prospects of use are considered.

ABSTRACT: Several populations of E. tatrae from the West Carpathians (Slovakia) were analysed karyologically in the paper. The analyses revealed diploidy of the species studied, while the related E. minima is a tetraploid species.

ABSTRACT: A syntaxonomic and synecological analysis of the Leucobryo-Pinetum in Bavaria is presented. A description of the three subassociations recognized is given. The classification confirms the overregional validity of the concept of MATUSZKIEWICZ (1962). Each subassociation can be divided into two variants. The different degree of naturalness of the syntaxa is discussed.

ABSTRACT: The author emphasizes the priority of some names belonging to European plants. As a result one new name (Astragalus clusianus) and two new combinations (Allium guttatum subsp. tenorei and Iris spuria subsp. güldenstaedtiana) are proposed. The authorship of other names must be ascribed to earlier botanists.

ABSTRACT: A survey of the representatives of Taraxacum sect. Palustria (Compositae) in Bohemia is presented. Nineteen species are given full descriptions, chromosome numbers, distribution in Bohemia (with references to published localities and lists of additional sites). Four of them, T. madidum, T. anserinum, T. quaesitum, T. dentatum, are described as new, and T. hemiparabolicum HUDZIOK is typified. A simple indication value reflecting a relative rarity of a species in Bohemia and elsewhere, and ecological demands of a species, is calculated for each representative. An account of localities with members of the section is given; ten localities of international importance are listed, other localities important for nature conservation reasons are also mentioned.

ABSTRACT: Ruscus hypoglossum L., a rare plant species of the Slovak flora, is distributed in SE, part of the Malé Karpaty Mts. (SW Slovakia). Data on taxonomy, syntaxonomy, morphology, phenology, chorology, endangerment and conservation of Ruscus hypoglossum are presented in this paper. Geological, pedological and climatic characteristics of its habitat are given, as well, on the basis of the author’s observations, particularly from 1983 to 1985, and on data obtained from the literature.
