Guide to authors
Original scientific works, short communications and reviews (biosystematics, botanical taxonomy, floristics reports, anatomy and morphology, phytogeography, chorology, phytocoenology, ecology, population biology, flora and vegetation, evolution, geobotany, paleobotany, chromosome studies, karyology, plant conservation, plant introduction, plant invasions, history of botany) in a maximum extent of 30 pages (the Editorial Board may accept longer papers) should be written in English (with the exclusion of descriptions of new taxa and syntaxa) in the following layout:
a) Title of the paper;
b) The name and surname of the author (or authors);
c) Author’s contact address and e-mail address;
d) Abstract (300 words as a maximum);
e) Keywords (three to eight words);
f) Text of the paper; the division of the paper is proposed by the author, the experimental works should be divided as follows: Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, Discussion; g) Acknowledgement (if any);
h) References.
Papers in the electronic form should be submitted to the executive editor (Thaiszia – Journal of Botany, Botanical Garden of UPJŠ, Mánesova 23, SK-04352 Košice, Slovakia; preferably by e-mail: thaiszia@upjs.sk). The submission of a paper should be accompanied by the Declaration of right signed by all of the authors. The authors will be notified about the receipt of the paper. All the papers are peer reviewed by at least two reviewers active in the field the paper belongs to. The authors can provide names and contact information (e-mail address) of some experts in the field as possible reviewers of the paper. If the paper is returned for a revision, the authors should submit a revised version within 1 months. In some cases, the authors may request longer time for the revision. The accepted papers are printed and electronically published as soon as possible. The authors will obtain proofs in the form of pdf file.
The manuscript should be prepared in the electronic form as a Microsoft Word file, double-spaced throughout on normal paper of European size organized on A4 format (21 x 29.7 cm). Use Calibri types, size 11. Do not use the space bar to make indents, an indent command should be used for this purpose. Input your text continuously, i.e. insert hard returns exclusively at the ends of paragraphs or headings. Text with tables (*.doc, *.docx or *.rtf) and figures (*.tif, *.jpg, *.png) files of the final version should be attached to the e-mail.
Tables should be within the main text or in separate files, table heading should be written above the table, designated by abbreviation Tab. (e.g. Tab. 1). Tables should be used only when essential and arranged with regard to the dimension of the printed page. The tables should not include vertical lines (but the data must be arranged in table columns, do not use space bar to separate the data between the columns).
Figures must be high quality camera-ready or scanned pen-and-ink drawings. All figures should be accompanied by descriptive phrases (figure captions) within the text file or in a separate file. Drawings and photographs of plant material should be accompanied by a scale bar, if necessary (pollen grains, herbarium specimens etc.). Colour photographs can be published.
Literature references. In the text the references are given by the name of the author and the year of publication (in brackets), if one author: Robson (1977); if two: Kirschner & Štěpánek (1993); if more than three: Walentovski et al. (1997). In the list of references only the cited works are mentioned. Each article in the References chapter must include DOI identificator, if exists. Authors’ names are listed in alphabetical order. The following format is to be used:
Mártonfi P. (1997): Nomenclatural survey of the genus Thymus sect. Serpyllum from Carpathians and Pannonia. – Thaiszia – J. Bot. 7: 111-181.
Journal titles should follow IPNI web site: http://ipni.org/ipni/publicationsearchpage.do. Abbreviations are used. In the case of books, the title is followed by the data on edition and division of the work: Ed. 2., Vol. 3, and, following after the dash, the location of the edition. References to compendia and proceedings are introduced by the word In:, according to the following example:

All plant names must follow the accepted nomenclatural rules and cited with their author; e. g. Knautia slovaca Štěpánek. Abbreviations of the names of authors of plant names should follow IPNI web: http://ipni.org/ipni/authorsearchpage.do. Once cited in the text, the following reference to the species name may be written without authorship (K. slovaca). Taxon name should be written in italic. In the reviews with large number of taxa or in phytocoenological works it is possible to mention the nomenclatural references work used, without mentioning the authors of the taxa. As to syntaxa, similar rules should be used.
