The three-quarter-century of any institution is an incentive to reflect on its history and an opportunity to set out a vision for the coming years and perhaps prospectively for the years up to its centenary. On 5th May 2025 we commemorate the 75th anniversary of the foundation of Botanical Garden in Košice.

On 5th May 2025 we commemorate the 75th anniversary of the foundation of Botanical Garden in Košice. educational department of the University. In a wider sense it is an important educational and cultural institution of the region of east Slovakia with both national and international aspects. The Botanical Garden plays its roles in the education of university students as well as primary and secondary school pupils, but also in the popularization of scientific knowledge from the fields of biology and ecology among wider population.

In the sense of international Convention on Biological Diversity the main contents of the activities of the Botanical Garden are the scientific and the research work aimed at the concentration and the study of the gene pool of both endangered and common species all over the world with special stress to the endangered species of Carpathians and Pannonia.

That is why the main theme of the conference on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Botanical Garden of P. J. Šafárik University in Košice is Biodiversity of the plant kingdom in the course of climate change with three sections:

a) history and present of plant biodiversity, current taxonomic studies,
b) conservation of biodiversity and the role of botanical gardens in plant conservation and cultural awareness,
c) climate change and its impact on biodiversity.

The conference is held under the auspices of rector of P. J. Šafárik University, prof. MUDr. Daniel Pella, PhD. and the invited lectures will be presented by important personalities from the field of botany from Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Therefore, as a director of the Botanical Garden I am taking the liberty of inviting you to this conference in order to spend both working and ceremonial moments together and to commemorate the 75th anniversary of this institution in a respectable manner.
