Excursion to Streda nad Bodrogom and its surroundings – 11 September 2025, meeting at 8:45 a.m. at the railway station in Košice (using rail transport saves the environment)

The excursion will lead to the East Slovak Lowland. The route starts at the railway station in Streda nad Bodrogom with a short demonstration of ruderal and invasive species established in the vicinity of the station. Then the route will lead along the dyke with a view of a soft floodplain forest with numerous lianas on the banks of the Bodrog river. The rare community of Trapetum natantis will be shown on the Somotorský channel with a display of floating aquatic plants such as Trapa natans, Nuphar lutea, Nymphaea alba, Salvinia natans, Stratiotes aloides and Utricularia australis. In the case of a low water level, species of bare bottom such as Cyperus michelianus, Sagittaria sagittifolia, Oxybasis rubra, etc. may appear. There are also relatively robust species on the banks, such as Rumex aquaticus and the extremely poisonous Cicuta virosa. The route measures approximately 8 km and ends in Somotor at the train station. Since there is no shop along the trail, participants must ensure they have enough liquids and food for the duration of the excursion. At the end of the excursion there is a grocery store in the village of Somotor.
