Constitutionally, Obstetrics and Gynecology in Ko\u0161ice began to write their history exactly in 1905, when the building of the ‘Babsk\u00e1 \u0161kola \u0161t\u00e1tnej p\u00f4rodnice a nemocnice pre \u017eensk\u00e9 choroby<\/em>‘ on then R\u00e1koczi and later renamed Moyzesova street was finished and placed in service. It was the most modern institution of its kind in the region of the former Austria-Hungary and later Czechoslovakia. It was staffed by many important obstetricians and gynecologists, educators, scientists, and neonatologists.<\/p>\n

The most important period in the history of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Ko\u0161ice and in the catchment area of this institution was definitely the one that followed the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine in Ko\u0161ice, which brought the transformation of the State maternity hospital and Women’s disease hospital into the University Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic. The generation of doctors surrounding such an important personality as Professor Theodor Schwarz, the first head of this clinic, was one of the leading groups of obstetricians and gynecologists, university teachers and researchers in the former Czechoslovakia.<\/p>\n

The original Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of the Faculty of Medicine in Ko\u0161ice was divided in 1973 into two University Clinics, and later on several non-clinical OB\/GYN workstations were established in Ko\u0161ice.<\/p>\n
