In 2006, the original Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department was transformed into III. Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department of the Slovak Medical University and obtained the status for postgraduate education within the specialization in the field of gynaecology and obstetrics. In 2012, the department became one of the clinical teaching bases of the UPJŠ Faculty of Medicine and became the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of the UPJŠ Faculty of Medicine, where, in addition to postgraduate education, undergraduate teaching within the doctoral study program in general medicine was established.
Significant progress is being made in the field of fetal maternal medicine. The establishment of the certified center The Fetal Medicine Foundation London enabled the introduction of advanced ultrasound prenatal diagnostics.
