The Institute of Medical Biology is located on the 6th and 5th floor in the 1st section of the Faculty of Medicine building (Medipark) at Trieda SNP 1, where the Office of the Head and those of the Institute personnel and research laboratories are situated.
Currently, the Institute focuses on the study and analysis of mutations, gene polymorphisms, and gene expression in association with the development, diagnosis, and therapy of complex (multifactorial) diseases. This issue is addressed at this Institute within the cooperation developed with many institutions and clinical departments.
The staff of the Institute provide teaching of the subjects of Biology, General and Oral Biology, Medical Biology / Genetics, Methods in Genetics and Molecular Biology, Medical Biology, Molecular Biology for Bc, doctoral, and PhD students in the English language for international students at the UPJŠ Faculty of Medicine. In teaching the above courses, the Institute staff provides students with the theoretical foundations of general regularities in living organisms at the level of molecules, cells, organism, and population. Considerable emphasis in the teaching of Medical Biology is given to the issues of human molecular biology and genetics, through which students receive a theoretical platform for studying other medical subjects.
