Research is focused on the following research areas:
- Study of educational methods in order to enhance the quality of teaching anatomy for Slovak and foreign students which should be made according to recommendations of European Union experts. Teaching anatomy for Slovak and foreign students should be coordinated with using of the same educational approaches for all of them. There is an aim to gain good knowledge of anatomy structures of human body with the implementation of their clinical importance in medical practice.
- We are interested in Brain Compatible Learning which deals with the possibilities of effective learning using the latest knowledge about the brain. The main goal of the project is to teach students how they can use their brain’s potential, spend less time with learning, and keep knowledge in long-term memory.
- Preparation of a comprehensive textbook (study material) incorporating ultrasonography into the practical teaching of anatomy to correlate the anatomical and ultrasound images of organs and structures, focusing on the anatomy in physiological state. The result – a close connection of the theoretical subject Anatomy with clinical practice, namely ultrasound examination, which is now an integral part of basic examination methods in many medical disciplines.
- Study of selected proteins as possible predictive but also prognostic biomarkers in relation to breast cancer. Research is focused on βIII-tubulin, carbon anhydrase IX, p53 and survivin. Chemically induced mammary gland carcinoma is used as an experimental model in female rats and subsequently treated with paclitaxel and doxorubicin. Expression of these protein markers is monitored before and after cytostatic treatment. The ELISA method is used to determine the level of proteins in peripheral blood and to evaluate their expression in tumor tissues immunohistochemistry method is used.
- Study of the presence of antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidases in experimental animals. The research is aimed at detection of the presence of these enzymes in reproductive organs and in preimplantation embryos of female rats and their possible influence on infertility.
- Study the effect of short – and long – term administration of entacapone, a COMT inhibitor, on activity of antioxidant enzymes and indicators of oxidative stress in the organism of experimental animals, to detect changes in sex hormone levels and changes in reproductive parameters of male rats.
- Department of Anatomy collaborate with other departments of Medical Faculty, Department of Histology and Embryology Jessenius Faculty of Medicine UK and Institute of Neurobiology SAS.
