The ENT department in Košice was established in the State Hospital in 1934 and was headed by Dr. Šimko. After 1944, the department was temporarily headed by MUDr. Seidler, in 1946, Prof. MUDr. Michal Šuster, DrSc. became the head of the ENT department, who after the establishment of the UPJŠ Faculty of Medicine became the head of the ENT clinic at the UPJŠ Faculty of Medicine in 1948. He is the author of the monograph Skleróm (1956) and the first textbook of otorhinolaryngology written in Slovak: Otorhinolaryngology (1953) and subsequently the second supplemented edition of the textbook Otorhinolaryngology (1975). Until 1964, the deputy head of the ENT clinic was MUDr. Juraj Kovaľ st, then from 1964 to 1968, the deputy head was MUDr. Ladislav Havrila. Since 1968, the deputy head was MUDr. Peter Gal, CSc. Since 1976, the head of the ENT clinic has been doc. Andrej Vladimír, CSc. In 1982, after the start of operation of the FNsP building on Terasa, the clinic was divided and the ENT department was established at Rastislavová 43. Doc. MUDr. Peter Gal, CSc. became the head of the ENT department, and since 1992, the head of the ENT department at Rastislavová 43 has been MUDr. Vojtech Kavečanský, PhD. After organizational changes, this department became part of the East Slovak Oncology Institute in 2003. After the division of the Clinic in 1982 and the move to the premises of the new building at Tr. SNP 1, the head of the ENT clinic was doc. Andrej Vladimír, CSc. and the primary care physician was MUDr. Magdaléna Andrašovská. After doc. Vladimír retired, the head was prof. MUDr. Michal Pichanič, DrSc., who is the author of the monograph Clinical Otoneurology (1992), and his deputy was MUDr. Michal Molčan CSc., who is the author of the publication Vertigo, basics of diagnostics and treatment (2002). From 1996 to 2022, the head of the clinic was prof. MUDr. Juraj Kovaľ, CSc. He is the author of the monographs Surgical treatment of chronic otitis media (1998) and the monograph Nervus facialis (2002). Since 1998, his deputy has been MUDr. Juraj Mudrák CS. and since 2009, the deputy was MUDr. Darina Machánová. Since 2019, MUDr. Martin Šuchaň, PhD, has been appointed as the deputy head of the clinic for LP care and MUDr. Michal Molčan, CSc. has been appointed as the deputy head of the clinic for pedagogical activities.
Since May 1, 2022, the head of the Department of ENT and Head and Neck Surgery is MUDr. Martin Šuchaň, PhD. and the deputy is MUDr. Ladislav Kaliarik, PhD.
