Minister of Health prof. MD. Matejíček, DrSc. appointed to the post of head of the newly established Department of Neurosurgery prof. MD. Ján Faguľa, PhD. in July 1st. 1981. The practical operation began in february 8th. 1982.

Department of Neurosurgery had 60 beds and one operating room in 1982. Second operating room was built in 2005 and third OR in 2009. It was performed 355 operations in 1982, 1221 operations in 2004 and 2442 operations in 2013.
