2nd Department of Surgery of Louis Pasteur University Hospital and Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ originates from Department of Surgery at Rastislavova street and it is located in surgical pavilion at 43 Rastislavova street. Our patients section is located on ground floor, the department is located on 6th floor. It participates on education of students , Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ and postgradual education of doctors and nurses. PhD study is possible to graduate in internal or external form. Within the scope of scientific research the employees of department are participated in scientific programs at department and also in cooperation with other departments and they participate in research of grant projects.
2nd Department of Surgery has 60 beds and provides permanent, complex surgical care of patients in general, thoracic, endocrine and visceral surgery.
Miniinvasive operations (laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy, laparoscopic operations of gastroesophageal junction, laparoscopic hernia repair, laparoscopic operations of colon and rectum) are used in wide extent in treatment of patients. TEM (transanal endoscopic microsurgery) is used in patients with some diseases of rectum. Videothoracoscopic methods in thoracic surgery are used in management of diseases of pleura, lungs, mediastinum and esophagus. Videomediastinoscopy is also a part of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Autoflourescent videothoracoscopy is used for diagnosis and treatment of pleural diseases since April 2007.
Resections and recontruction operations on trachea and large bronchi (in cases of stenosis, trauma, neoplastic involvment) are performed at 2nd Department of Surgery. Lung volume reduction surgery (LVRS) is included in spectrum of thoracosurgical prodedures in patients with lung emphysema. In a care of patients with oncological diseases 2nd Department of Surgery provides radical operations, surgical treatment of metastases and palliative procedures.
Intensive care unit and department of endoscopy are parts of 2nd Department of Surgery. Department of endoscopy offers a wide spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures (esophagoscopy, gastroscopy, proctoscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, endoscopic polypectomy).
