Psychiatric department of the State hospital in Košice, well structured and conceptually corresponding with all requirements for appropriate psychiatric care since 1921, had naturally
provided the educational and curative basis necessary for further academic development of the Psychiatric clinic established by founding the UPJŠ Medical faculty in 1948. The first head of the psychiatric clinic, prof. MUDr. Zoltán Klimo, deeply engaged in human aspects of psychiatric treatment as well as in theoretical aspects of the field, had succeeded in creating the platform for subsequent growth of the department. All his followers (Doc. Medvecký, Prof. Kafka, MUDr. Pálová, MUDr. Dragašek), were able to reflect up-to-date trends in psychiatry and to keep the line of professional cooperation with slovak and international institutions.
Today 1. Psychiatric clinic strives to continue in this trend.
