The Faculty of Medicine, UPJŠ participated in an extensive study aimed at detecting antibodies to COVID-19 in unvaccinated people in Slovakia, which clarified the percentage of their already developed antibodies against the disease and made it possible to predict the development of the third wave of the pandemic.
The testing was carried out in Slovak towns and municipalities in various regions of Slovakia, while the sampling in the Košice, Prešov, and Banská Bystrica regions was carried out by the staff of the Department of Epidemiology FM UPJŠ under the leadership of the Head of Department prof. Monika Halánová, D.V.M., PhD. with the help of faculty students who provided finger dried blood spot sampling.
The results of the nationwide study were presented by the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic at a press conference on Tuesday, December 21, 2021.
