On Friday 21 October 2022 students of translation and interpretation study programme English Language for European Institutions and Economy attended a virtual visit organized by the General Directorate for Translation of the European Commission where they could see presentations on what it means to translate for the European Commission, they learnt about the main language policies of the EC in respect of the EU language equality and diversity, systems of traineeships and the EPSO recruitment process for permanent translation positions after graduation. They also enjoyed the opportunity to meet the staff of the Slovak Translation Unit of DGT EC in Luxembourg; they learnt about the translation processes and software tools used in Luxembourg as well as the possibilities of applying for internships at this workplace. By attending this international event students were afforded an opportunity to realize the importance of their language preparedness, translation skills and competences, including IT and CAT tool skills which they acquire in academia for the real chances to pursue their careers in the EU institutions in the future.
