Successful cooperation of the BAS Department FF UPJŠ with the Embassy of the SR in Greece

2minút, 17sekúnd

Since October 2018 ten students of the second and the third years of the translation study programme “English language for European institutions and economy” and a PhD student of the BAS Department have worked under the supervision of PhDr. Slávka Janigová, PhD. on translation of texts and their recordings  for the project of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Athens. When translating the narratives of 26 refugees who found their new home in Greece from English to Slovak, the future professional translators Ľubomír Andrej, Peter Beľuš, Katarína Machová, Lenka Liberdová, Peter Pazič, Patrícia Petická, Laura Proněková, Anna Štofaníková and Dávid Vozár practiced their acquired knowledge and translation skills. Jakub Paľovčík, a second year student and a PhD student Mgr. Zuzana Eperješiová provided their own voices for the Slovak audio recordings of the stories. Mgr. Eperješiová also helped Dr. Janigová with corrections of translated texts and she provided technical support for all recordings.

All involved, by their professional contribution and human approach helped make the Greek project “Face Forward…into my home” available for Slovak speaking public not only in Košice where in Tabačka Kulturfabrik Gallery the official opening of the interactive exhibition took place on the 23rd of January 2019 (the exhibition will be there until 22.2.2019), but also on the project website http://www.faceforward.gr/en/ where the site visitors may see the artistic portrait photographs of the refugees and listen to the recordings of their stories also in Slovak, e.g. http://www.faceforward.gr/en/faces-stories/mo-sabi/.

Her Excellency Ambassador of the Slovak Republic in Greece, Madam Iveta Hricová underlined the professional and human contribution of the BAS Department in the process of exhibition completion not only by publicly expressing her gratitude to all involved during the exhibition opening but also by sending a special letter to Dr. Janigová thanking her for her professional and coordinating work on the project. Her Excellency awarded all participating students by certificates and offered Mgr. Eperješiová an opportunity of a long-term internship in the Slovak Embassy in Athens.

I want to express my gratitude on behalf of the BAS Department to Dr. Janigová, Mgr. Eperješiová and all students involved in the project for their quality work and human contribution by which they have made the BAS Department, the Faculty of Arts and UPJŠ more visible in the city of Košice, in the Košice Region, in Slovakia and in Greece.

Thank you.
