The Department of Philosophy currently offers full-time single-major and interdisciplinary study programmes in philosophy, as well as the study programmes Teaching of Civic Education and Teaching of Ethics. At the doctoral level, the department provides a four-year study programme in Philosophy. After merging with the Department of Applied Ethics in 2020, the department’s course offerings expanded to include an in-depth focus on ethical topics. Accordingly, undergraduate students can individually tailor their specialisation through two modules: Philosophy and the History of Philosophy, and Applied Ethics.

The department actively fosters international relations and regularly organises lectures and workshops with guest lecturers from around the world. It supports its students in participating in international mobility through the Erasmus+ programme, offering opportunities to study, for example, at universities in Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Poland.

From a research perspective, the department embraces an open approach that allows faculty members to pursue diverse research paths, enabling them to offer supervision in a wide range of areas to students at all levels of study. The department has a long-standing tradition of historical-philosophical research, primarily focusing on modern philosophy, as well as 20th-century analytical and continental philosophy. In recent years, this focus has expanded to include anthropology, philosophy of religion, and social philosophy. Thanks to its merger with the Department of Applied Ethics, the department’s research scope has further broadened to include critical examinations of the relationships between care, justice, and power within the context of moral, social, and political philosophy, with particular emphasis on feminist ethics of care.
