The areas of research of the department:
➺ The right to good governance, local government with a focus on the relationship between democracy and professionalism in local government
➺ European Union bodies and institutions (European Parliament, Council of Europe, European Ombudsman, and others)
➺ Social protection of persons in the European area
➺ Legal regulation of tax procedure, organisation of tax administration, tax crime
The research activities of the individual members of the department are mainly focused on the following areas of research:

doc. JUDr. Peter MOLITORIS, PhD. – Administration of taxes and fees by local authorities with a focus on local tax administration, tax procedure, tax enforcement procedure, tax justice
doc. JUDr. Martin VERNARSKÝ, PhD. – Tax administration with a focus on tax procedure, tax functions
doc. JUDr. Vladimíra ŽOFČINOVÁ, PhD. – Labour relations in public administration, social security and social protection of persons
JUDr. Róbert GYURI, PhD. – Cultural administration with a focus on the administration of churches and religious societies, various forms of public administration activities
JUDr. Martina KANTOROVÁ, PhD. – Tax crime, criminal protection and criminal liability of public officials, criminal and criminological aspects of corruption
Mgr. PhDr. Rastislav KRÁL, PhD. – Legal protection of the environment in connection with issues of cross-border cooperation in the given area, issues of functioning of local self-government, status, significance and roles of the non-profit sector in the conditions of the Slovak Republic with a focus on intersectoral and cross-border cooperation and the international context of the solution of research tasks
