Assoc. Prof. A. Orendáčová, DrSc. studies exotic transitions in two-dimensional quantum magnetic structures based on Cu(II) ions, resulting from the interaction of both spin and spatial anisotropy and magnetic field. She also studies the topological excitations, the so-called quantum vortices, induced by the magnetic field, which can cause the Berezinski-Kosterlitz-Thouless phase transition (Fig. 2) [A. Orendáčová, et al. Phys. Rev. B 80 (2009) 144418].

In a cooperation with other members of the team, she studies the heat transport and relaxation processes in low-dimensional rare-earth based magnets with a potential in magnetic refrigeration [V. Tkáč, et al., Phys. Rev. B 92 (2015) 024406].
