The EXTASY team members operating at the UPJŠ Faculty of Medicine have been implementing the targeted interdisciplinary programme-oriented research in the area of “Metabolism – Cardiovascular diseases/cardiovascular risk – Atherosclerosis” for over 30 years.
Research focus: Diabetes and atherosclerosis (supervisor: prof. Tkáč)
- The relationships between metabolic disorders, genetic background, and cardiovascular complications in Type 2 diabetes,
- Pharmacogenetic aspects of treatment with oral antidiabetic drugs.
Research focus: Respiratory diseases – obesity – hypoxia – metabolism – cardiovascular complications (supervisor: prof. Tkáčová)
- Pathophysiological and clinical effects of hypoxia in sleep-related respiratory disorders – sleep apnea (chronic intermittent hypoxia), and in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (chronic persistent hypoxia),
- Study of obesity as a risk factor for cardiovascular and metabolic complications in respiratory diseases,
- Effect of non-invasive ventilation therapy on cardiovascular and metabolic outcomes.
