In THE Impact Rankings, the performance of universities in regard to the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is compared. UPJŠ participates in the evaluation based on these four SDGs:
• Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3)
• Quality Education (SDG 4)
• Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16)
• Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17)
Ranking of UPJŠ
In 2023, 1591 universities from all over the world participated in the ranking. Compared to the previous year, the increase in the sample represents 181 new participating institutions. Compared to 2022, there is no significant change in the positioning of UPJŠ within the world, nor within the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Within the V4 countries, 48 universities were evaluated, with UPJŠ ranked 23rd, a drop of 5 places compared to the previous year.
UPJŠ received the best ranking in SDG 3 (Health and Quality of Life), where it ranked 201-300. This is followed by SDG16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), where UPJS ranked 301-400. In SDG 4 (Quality Education), UPJS ranked 801-1000 and in SDG 17 (Partnership to Achieve the Goals), UPJS ranked 1001+. Compared to last year, UPJŠ has seen a decrease in all areas.

In 2022, 1,410 universities from around the world participated in the ranking, an increase of 293 universities from the previous year. In 2022, all Slovak universities dropped significantly. Although the reason for this is likely to be the widening of the ranking sample, universities also received lower scores. UPJŠ was ranked 801-1000 in global terms. Within the V4 countries it ranked 18th, among Czech and Slovak universities UPJŠ ranked 9th. In Slovakia, it retained the 2nd place.
UPJŠ achieved the best score in SDG 3 (Quality of Health and Life), where it ranked 101-200. In this area, UPJŠ improved significantly compared to the previous year and outperformed Masaryk University in Brno. In SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), as in the previous year, UPJŠ ranked 201-300. This information speaks about the good performance of the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Public Administration, whose performance data were used in the evaluation of SDG 16. At the same time, the improvement in SDG 3 points to the increasing quality of the activities of the Faculty of Medicine.

In THE Impact Rankings 2021, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice was ranked 401-600 from 1,118 evaluated universities in 94 countries of the world. UPJŠ ranked 2nd among 4 Slovak universities, and 6th among 11 Czech and Slovak universities.
Our university´s performance is most positively evaluated in SDG 3, where it was assigned score of 63.9-70. The scores in the remaining SDGs were analogous.

In 2020, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice took part in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings for the first time. This year, the rankings consisted of 766 universities from 85 countries of the world. Apart from our university, three other Slovak universities made the rankings: University of Economics in Bratislava, Technical University of Košice and Comenius University in Bratislava.
In the global evalutation, our university’s rank was 301-400. Among the 20 universities of the V4, UPJŠ shared the positions 5-8 with the University of Gdańsk, the University of Pécs, and the University of Warsaw. When comparing Czech and Slovak universities, UPJŠ scored third best out of nine.
Our university achieved it’s best scores in SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being). In the SDG 16 rankings, UPJŠ ranked 91st out of 453 universities from 76 countreis. The SDG 3 rankings consisted of 620 universities from 80 countries of the world and UPJŠ’s rank there was 101-200. In both cases, our university ranked second best among the ranked Czech and Slovak universities.
