Foreign students studying in Slovakia are legally obliged to have a health insurance (public or commercial) valid for the whole period of their stay in the territory of the Slovak Republic.
Students from EU countries
EU/EEA and Swiss citizens insured in another member state shall present the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to the health care provider for entitlement to medical treatment on the basis of health insurance in another EU/EEA member state or Switzerland.

Students from non-EU countries
Non-EU/EEA citizens who have not contracted a health insurance before leaving their country are required to obtain a commercial health insurance in Slovakia. They are also obliged to provide a proof of concluded health insurance valid for the territory of the Slovak Republic to the Foreign Police Office in compliance with the duties related to the temporary residence permit granting procedure.
