The funds raised from the sale of Christmas punch were donated to the Maják nádeje civic organization, which helps families in need. Students and staff could contribute by purchasing Christmas punch or handmade products during December 10-11, 2024, at a booth on campus.

On 19 December 2024, representatives of UPJŠ visited Maják nádeje to give the financial donation of 312 euros to its director, PaedDr. Mgr. Sonia Vancáková, PhD.

In addition to the punch, which was sold for two days by UPJŠ volunteers, Maják nádeje civic organization sold products handmade by its clients on the premises of the university. From this sale, an additional donation worth almost 200 euros was raised. The event was held under the auspices of UPJŠ and OZ Prírodovedec.

In addition to selling charity punch, this year we also cooperated with the civic association to help mothers in need. Lavender hearts, made by the mothers in need – clients of Maják nádeje, are regularly placed at the front desk of the Rectorate at Šrobárova Street in Košice, together with a marked cash box for contributions of a minimum value of 2 euros in exchange for a heart. From October to 6 December 2024, more than 50 hearts worth nearly 120 euros were distributed at the Rectorate of the UPJŠ.

UPJŠ IN THE NEWS

Thank you to everyone who contributed and supported families and mothers in need. We are also grateful to the UPJŠ student canteens for preparing the delicious punch and to the members of the Student Council of the Faculty of Science of UPJŠ for their organizational help.
