On Friday 27 September 2024, UPJŠ researchers from various fields presented their work at the popular event European Night of Science. Visitors to the shopping centres in Košice and Poprad were exposed to the mysterious world of science at eleven booths, as well as four lectures and a workshop on interesting topics in the fields of medicine and health, natural, technical, social, human and sports sciences.

The event in Optima in Košice was opened by the vice-rector for science, research and project agenda, professor Renáta Oriňaková, who addressed the visitors by saying that experts from UPJŠ together with scientists from other universities in Košice and the Slovak Academy of Sciences will be happy to convince them that science is not remote and inaccessible, but on the contrary, it is a part of our everyday life, from the technologies we use, through medicine and environmental protection to breakthrough discoveries that shape our future.

Science is all around us and its role is to make our world a better place to live in. Today, you all have the opportunity to become researchers for a while and discover that science is not only important, but also extremely interesting and fun. And maybe you will come up with the next big idea that will change the world,” said vice-rector Oriňaková, wishing the students and other curious people with a desire for discoveries to enjoy a great day full of science.

The event took place from 9 am to 9 pm and attracted hundreds of people interested in science to the stands of UPJŠ researchers in the Optima mall in Košice and the Max mall in Poprad, some of whom will hopefully grow into a new generation of successful researchers…
