Director of the Slovak Studies Program (the only one of its kind in North America, where students can study Slovak language and culture) and Vlasta Štofová, PhD., who accompanied seven Slovak Studies students from the University of Pittsburgh. They spent part of their stay in Košice, where they visited UPJŠ and its Faculty of Arts. After a tour of the university’s rectorate campus, they moved on to the UPJŠ Faculty of Arts, specifically the Department of Slovak Studies, Slavic Philology and Communication (KSSFaK) and the Department of English and American Studies (KAA). Vice-rector Tomaščíková and KSSFaK assistant professor, Peter Getlík, PhD., took them to specialised workplaces such as the Television and Film Studio, the Laboratory of Experimental Phonetics and Communication, and the Interpretation Laboratory. The joint meeting ended with a guided tour of the historical centre of Košice. During the meeting the possibilities of cooperation between the two universities and study of foreign students at UPJŠ were discussed.
“I believe this first visit of students from the University of Pittsburgh to UPJŠ will open a large enough space for cooperation between Slovak and American studies departments of our universities both in the pedagogical and scientific-research fields,” said Vice-Rector Tomaščíková.
