Meeting of Student Representatives in the Study Programme Boards at UPJŠ

On 17 and 19 June 2024, the Rectorate of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University hosted an event organised by Martin Duránik and Zuzana Orságová Králová, which brought together student representatives from different study programmes to discuss and improve the quality of education and promote meaningful student engagement.

The event was attended by members of the management, including Vice-Rector JUDr. Ľudmila Elbert, PhD., Univ. Associate Professor, Vice-Rector prof. Mgr. Jaroslav Hofierka, PhD. and the chairwoman of the Board for Quality Assurance of UPJŠ prof. Ing. Mária Mareková, CSc. They thanked the present students for their active participation in the Councils and assured them that they are an important part of the quality system at the University and that all their comments and suggestions will be given due attention and seriousness.

The student representative on the the Board for Quality Assurance of UPJŠ, Martin Duránik, gave an engaging presentation on the hierarchy of quality assurance in the context of Slovak education. These presentations provided a comprehensive overview of the standards and protocols that ensure the academic excellence of a university.

MUDr. Tomáš Petras from the Medical Education Centre, UPJŠ MF, presented the importance of meaningful student engagement, highlighting the critical role of students in shaping the learning environment. This session highlighted how active student participation can bring about positive change within an institution.

The quantitative feedback aimed to quantify the extent of student involvement and their level of engagement, while the qualitative feedback focused on addressing current policies affecting students. This dual approach ensured a comprehensive understanding of students’ experiences and perspectives.

The event was a testament to the University’s commitment to continuous improvement and its dedication to fostering collaboration between students and leadership. The outcomes of the event will play a vital role in shaping policies that reflect the real needs and aspirations of the student community, creating a more inclusive and responsive learning environment.
