The theme of a series of conferences across Slovakia in October was Artificial Intelligence – theoretically and practically. How to translate it into teacher education? The last conference was organised at the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice on Friday 11 October 2024. All school digital coordinators and school principals were welcome to register. The conferences were part of the Digital Transformation of Education and Schools National Project (Slovakia Programme).
The digitisation of education is not just about improving the quality of equipment and internet connectivity. It is above all about educators making full use of the potential of digital technologies, who should be aware not only of the benefits but also of the possible threats. To support educators on this journey, the position of School Digital Coordinator has been created. This professional works with the school management to develop an action plan for the digital transformation of the school, informs teachers about technological innovations and acts as their mentor in introducing digital technologies into teaching.
In October, four local conferences were held (in Bratislava, Zvolen, Ružomberok and Košice), which linked the topic of artificial intelligence in education to the role of the digital coordinator. Approximately 100 participants attended each of the conferences. The programme included practical workshops, panel discussions and lectures on the topic of AI in education, as well as the role of school digital coordinators as lecturers. It was organised by the National Centre for Digital Transformation of Education (including Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and Comenius University in Bratislava).
