Commission for Gender Equality at UPJŠ organized a workshop in Minerva

On October 9, 2024, students along with research and teaching staff from humanities, social science and other disciplines of our university gathered for a day-long workshop entitled “What you will not learn about gender (gendri) from billboards – Gender as a subject, analytical tool and method in research and education“.

They had the opportunity to listen to inspiring lectures and discuss with experts from the fields of sociology, anthropology, pedagogy, political science, and literary studies on issues related not only to the application of a gender perspective in research and education, but also to current issues related to the status of science, research and scientific knowledge, as well as the role of education and the university in the development of society.

The workshop was opened by the Vice-Rector for Interdisciplinary Education and Innovation, assoc. prof. Renáta Orosová. The Chair of the Commission for Gender Equality, assoc. prof. Adriana Jesenková, presented the workshop programme and its goal, which is to create conditions for the integration of gender perspective into research and teaching at UPJŠ as part of the implementation of the 2022 – 2025 Gender Equality Plan.

The lectures were given by Dr. Veronika Valkovičová (sociologist at the Slovak Academy of Science, and teacher at PdF UK in Bratislava), Dr. Zuzana Sekeráková Búriková (anthropologist, Slovak Academy of Science in Bratislava), Dr. Zuzana Maďarová, M.A.(political scientist and political philosopher, FSVaEV UK in Bratislava) and Dr. Silvia Rosivalová Baučeková (UPJŠ Faculty of Arts). In the afternoon panel discussion, the speakers were joined by Dr. Denisa Fedáková, Director of the Centre of Social and Psychological Sciences, Institute of Social Sciences, Slovak Academy of Science in Košice.
