The Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice prepared an entertainment programme for 20 children from families in need living in the Oasis – Hope for a New Life in Bernátovce on the occasion of the International Children’s Day. The programme was delivered by students from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Public Administration of UPJŠ.
Children of different ages, who with their families found refuge in the Oasis in Bernátovce, celebrated their day early on Monday, 27 May 2024, from 4 p.m. The programme included a treasure hunt – children competed in teams completing a variety of creative and fun competitions. The most skilful team was rewarded with a found treasure, in which UPJŠ donated sweets and savoury snacks to the children. Among other things, the children were given colouring books, colouring pencils, balloons and toys.
The Children’s Day with UPJŠ in Oasis was a continuation of the successful cooperation within the Easter food collection for needy families living in Bernátovce. Employees and students of the university contributed 332 packages of various pasta, 178 cans, 108 kilograms of rice, 77 kilograms of flour, almost 50 kilograms of legumes, 26 litres of oil and other fresh food for the Easter table (18 kilograms of cold cuts). In addition to food, cosmetics and hygiene items were also collected. The Director of Oasis, Peter Gombita, who personally received the collected foodstuffs at the UPJS, appreciated the initiative. He provides food for the Oasis residents from several sources – from their own farm, from supermarket chains and from sponsors; any help is valuable and can improve the quality of life of the Oasis residents.
