1minút, 29sekúnd

“Science without borders” is the main theme of the fifth edition of the ESET Science Award, an award for outstanding scientific personalities. The fact that there are undoubtedly such personalities working at UPJŠ is evidenced by the regular representation of scientists from our university among the nominees for the prestigious award in three different categories:
Outstanding Scientist in Slovakia,
Outstanding Scientist in Slovakia Under the Age of 35,
Outstanding Academic in Slovakia.

Prof. RNDr. Katarína Cechlárová, DrSc. is a finalist this year in the Outstanding Academic category.

Professor Cechlárová works at the Institute of Mathematics of the Faculty of Science at UPJŠ in Košice as a scientist, mathematician and teacher. She was the first to introduce the issue of Computational Social Choice into Slovak mathematics. In her scientific research, she focuses on discrete mathematics, the theory of computational complexity and the applications of these disciplines, for example to problems of assignment, coalition formation, fair division and calculation of economic equilibria. She applies methods of mathematics and theoretical informatics to solve various problems in the fields of economics, political science and artificial intelligence. She imparts to students the knowledge that mathematics can bring one of the greatest satisfactions in life: “I try to teach students not only to calculate a solution, but also to think, argue and find the right language to express their ideas, so that they can present them clearly to different groups of people.”

The winner of the category Outstanding Personality of Higher Education will be selected by an expert jury composed of representatives of Slovak universities. The names of the winners will be announced on 12 October from 20.10 during the gala evening, which will be broadcast live by RTVS on Dvojka.

We warmly congratulate the professor and keep our fingers crossed for her!
