The academic community of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice elected its representatives to the Academic Senate of UPJŠ (“UPJŠ AS”) for the 2023-2027 term of office.
The inaugural meeting of the Academic Senate of the University, which was convened by the Chairman of the Electoral and Mandate Commission (“EMC”) for the elections to the Academic Senate of UPJŠ, doc. JUDr. Jozef Tekeli, PhD., was held on 16 March 2023 in the Historical Auditorium of the UPJŠ Rectorate. The meeting was attended by 36 newly elected members of the UPJŠ AS, representatives of faculties, Rectorate and university departments.
At the beginning of the meeting Doc. Tekeli welcomed the Rector of UPJŠ, prof. RNDr. Pavol Sovák, CSc., the Quaestor of UPJŠ, RNDr. Ing. Michal Tkáč, PhD., and all newly elected members of the UPJŠ AS in Košice. The Chairman of EMC informed about the course of the elections and informed the members of UPJŠ AS about the results of the elections. Then together with the Rector, they presented the members of the Academic Senate with their certificates of election.
In his speech to the UPJŠ AS members, Rector Sovák said: “I would like to take this opportunity to warmly congratulate the elected members of the UPJŠ AS who had won the trust of the members of the academic community of their faculties and are willing to work in the self-governing body. My gratitude goes to the President of EMC, doc. JUDr. Jozef Tekeli, PhD., for the smooth work and results of the elections. I wish you successful Senate negotiations and sincerely look forward to productive cooperation.”
Part of the agenda of the first meeting of the UPJŠ AS was the election of the Electoral and Mandate Commission, under the supervision of which the election of the President and Vice-Presidents of the AS was held. The chairman of the UPJŠ AS for the term of office 2023 – 2027 became prof. MUDr. Jana Kat’uchová, PhD. (UPJŠ Faculty of Medicine). The vice-presidents are doc. JUDr. Ing. Jaroslav Dolný, PhD. (UPJŠ Faculty of Law), doc. Mgr. Renáta Gregová, PhD. (UPJŠ Facutly of Art) . The vice-chair for the student part of the AS is Michaela Macková (UPJŠ Faculty of Medicine). The following working commissions of the Academic Senate were also created: legislative, economic and student affairs commissions.
