This year’s QS World University Rankings evaluating the reputation of universities in academia and among employers, the number of citations in leading Scopus and Elsevier databases, the number of students per academic staff, the share of foreign guests and students, also evaluated Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice for the first time. As a part of the evaluation of the consulting and advisory company Quacquarelli Symonds Limited, UPJŠ had ranked best among Slovak universities, at positions 651-700. The high score was attributed to UPJŠ on the basis of the ratio of students to academic staff and the quantity of foreign students.

Internationalization in education and research at the university is one of the strategic goals and all activities underline the international dimension of UPJŠ. In the past academic year, the university accepted 152 foreign students as part of mobility and created a space for study of more than 1,400 foreign students. The total share of foreign students in the last two (academic) years is more than 20%. Last year, UPJŠ has been visited by more than 200 scientific researchers from abroad, while they have spent more than 1,900 personal days at the university.

An open academic environment, conditions suitable for full-fledged scientific research as well as opportunities for international cooperation create ideal conditions for study and application not only at the regional but also at the national or global level.

Encouraging placement in a renowned international ranking commits us to further quality work in the field of education and research. We consider this to be an appreciation of all the effort that UPJŠ academics expend on a daily basis. The management of the university will continue to create conditions for ascent not only in this ranking. ” Said rector of UPJŠ prof. RNDr. Pavol Sovák, CSc.
