Two-dimensional (2D) materials, e.g. graphene, recently became the focus of solid-state physics and nanotechnology research, mainly due to the much greater tunability of their electronic properties with respect to their 3D counterparts. In collaboration with an international team, we demonstrated theoretically and experimentally, that the (LaSe)1.14(NbSe2)2 layered 3D crystal behaves as a heavily electron-doped 2D monolayer NbSe2. Moreover, such heavy doping is unachievable by other methods. The study was published in the prestigious journal Advanced Functional Materials [Raphaël T. Leriche et al., Adv. Funct. Mater. 2007706 (2020)], which is included in Nature index and has an impact factor of 18.8.
